Aluminum is a silvery white, soft, nonmagnetic, very ductile metal and is the third most abundant metal. Aluminum is has a very low density, is relatively soft, durable, lightweight and very resistant to corrosion when passivated. It is also a good thermal and electrical conductor and is non-magnetic and non-sparking. Alloyed aluminum can be cold worked for additional strength and some alloys are strengthened or hardened by heat treatment such that the tensile strength can reach 100 KSI. Aluminum has a high light reflectivity of almost 80% and therefore is widely used in the lighting industry and for aluminum roofing.
